Medicare Claim Numbers to Change

The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015 requires Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to remove Social Security Numbers (SSN) from all Medicare ID cards by April 2019. This Social Security Number Removal Initiative (SSNRI) is a critical project and requires thoughtful implementation by CMS and impacted stakeholders (Beneficiaries, Providers, Billing Agencies, etc.). As mandated by MACRA of 2015, CMS must replace all SSN-based Medicare Claim Numbers on Medicare ID cards with a non-intelligent number by April 2019. So… starting April 2018, you will start seeing articles, mailings and possibly new Medicare cards. For more information on this project, you can access the CMS website:
